MOVIE REVIEW: ALLEGIANT
by THS Media Hyuana Timley
The third installment to the Divergent series, Allegiant follows characters Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley), and Tobias Eaton (Theo James), on their journey to freedom. Throughout this action-packed thriller we see them trying to break free from an organization (as seen in the last two movies) that in their eyes is doing more bad than good. We see secrets uncovered, lives lost, and many things left unsaid.
As the duo finally leaves Chicago and sees what is behind the walls, they are left disappointed when they come to find nothing but radioactive land and no people around it. However there is more than what meets the eye when they uncover a new society that is nothing like the one back home.
We are introduced to many new characters as we see Tris and Tobias get acclimated into the new society. One of these new characters, David, is in charge of a bureau that is responsible for those who are genetically damaged (everyone in Chicago) and the pure (Tris).
As the movie progresses we see Tris face her own problems, and overcome multiple challenges by herself. She feels as if she has to confront her inner demons on her own in order to save the people of Chicago. Yet at the same time, Tobias has his own issues to deal with when he returns to Chicago to try and stop a war between the people of the city. The people have split into two groups with two different mindsets on how their society should function now that they are on their own. While this is happening Chicago’s inhabitants have to create their own solutions without each other yet still be able to be there for one another.
In the end we see everyone unite for the wellbeing of Chicago. Yet we are left off with no insight of what is to come in the near future. While the beginning of the movie showed promise, it did show a hint of a weak storyline and left me wanting more. Although there is no need to worry because there will be a part two to this movie coming out in 2017. I would recommend Allegiant to any and everyone because of it’s fresh twist to the book. I give it three Patriot Heads.
