Homecoming Preview: THS First
by THS Media Gregory Miranda
The stage is set, stakes are high. As Truman High School is proud to announce that thanks to the new stadium renovations allowing triple the amount of seats, to hold the first ever “Friday Night Lights” homecoming game versus Marshall on Oct. 2.
It will be a busy Friday to say the least as the football game isn't the only thing on the agenda as we plan to host a Truman Alumni reception starting at 6 p.m. in a tent at the Southwest corner of Truman Stadium as we encourage all to attend. And as expected during halftime, the Homecoming Court Coronation will take place as well teasing what's to come during the actual Homecoming dance.
And with many former alumni that will be in attendance, meaning more eyes than ever and higher expectations to make the night memorable to those who couldn't experience this in their timeshare at Truman.
Leroy Brown, the first Truman principal will get the honors to flip the coin for the game and after a 27 year term, Brown’s feelings has not changed.
“I was prideful then and I’m still proud of it,” Brown said .
As always Truman Activities Director and Truman alumni in 1997, Eric Holm will be in attendance eager than most to get the show on the road.
"It’s special to think about the lights being on Truman on a Friday night,” Holm said .
This might be too much to take in just reading it but for those that wear the helmets and jersey they know this is one of the most important games of the season; however, the work ethic and mindset will remain the same even if many of them may default to goosebumps as if it was their first game.
“It’s a pretty momentous event. Showing that the program is heading in the right direction, and the community is on board,” said leading rusher and senior running back, Jordan Salima. “Just to know we’re a part of that is something special.”
As for the pressure, speaking for the team and himself, ‘unfazed’ as he puts it.
“We’re just going to play it like every other game, and expect to come out on top,” Salima said.
If you have never been to a sporting event or go on occasion it would be ideal to change. Circle this on your calendar as we already will be packed but we’ll need all the support and noise we can get as again this is our first ever ‘Friday Night Lights’ game and a chance to be apart of Truman history.
