2014-2015 Entertainment Stories:
HOME
By THS Media Reporter Katie Black
“Home” is an animated major motion picture that tells a heart-warming tale full of amusement and adventure, based off of the novel “The True Meaning of Smekday” by Adam Rex.
The movie is about a 12-year-old girl, Gratuity “Tip” Tucci, who goes on a miraculous journey in search of her mother after aliens (“the Boov”) invade Earth and relocate the whole human population.
Oh, a spastic Boov misfit, decides he wants to throw a party at his new home on Earth, so he attempts to send an eVite to his “friend” Kyle. Instead, he accidentally sends the invitation to the whole galaxy which allows the enemy (“Gorg”) to locate them. After a surprising encounter between the fugitive Oh, and Tip, who managed to be the only person that wasn’t relocated, the two embark on an adventure in search of different things.
When Oh promises to help Tip find her mother, the pair travel the world and form a bizarre friendship. It’s all fun and games until Oh finds out that he needs to type in his email password and cancel the eVite so the Gorg doesn’t receive it. Although, that doesn’t stop the Gorg from tracking the Boov down. Eventually, they all realize that the Gorg weren’t after the Boov, they were after something that the Boov stole from them.

Even though this movie is animated, there are still many renowned actors who voice the characters. Tip is voiced by singer Rihanna, Oh is voiced by “Big Bang Theory’s” Jim Parsons, and Tip’s mother (Lucy Tucci) is voiced by singer, dancer and actress Jennifer Lawrence.
“My favorite part was when Oh danced in the car, but I didn’t like when he jumped out of the car and into the ocean,” said Victoria Black, 4-years-old, after viewing the movie with her family.
“Home” is an amazing movie that brings two different worlds together and creates an amazing story. I would recommend this movie for children, teenagers and adults, it definitely kept my attention and it wasn’t cheesy or predictable. I give this movie 5 Patriots!

INSURGENT
By THS Media Reporter Hyuana Timley
“Insurgent” is a nail biting thriller movie full of romance, action, suspense and drama. The movie is the second installment based off the best selling Divergent trilogy by Veronica Ruth.
“Insurgent” is about the revolt against the higher authority. The dynamic duo in the movie is shown fighting for the greater good of everyone. During the movie you see bonds growing and trust being broken. Moments being made and lives being lost.
Though the movie is based of the book the movie is portrayed differently. Theo James the actor playing Tobias Eden (Four) portrayed the character well but some characteristics were shown differently. Also Shailene Woodley the actor portraying Beatrice Prior (Tris) was shown throughout the movie differently than in the books - like hair length, age, and emotions. Despite the changes and differences between the movie and book the plot has stayed the same through it all.
“Divergent” sets up the storyline for the rest of the series and problems to come. It’s created a pathway for “Insurgent” to follow. It was the calm before the storm. “Divergent” was the exposition for the rest of the series. It created a scene for a problem to come. The end of “Divergent” is where we see the problem come and “Insurgent” is the story for the problem. There are many issues in Insurgent dealing with trust, fights and destruction of a corrupt government.
It introduces a new chapter in Tobias Eaton’s (Four) life. It shows his past and his secrets. It also shows guilt from Tris. There is also betrayal through family, friends and factions. The Dauntless faction splits into two sides as they battle to restore peace. One side of Dauntless joins with the corrupt government while the other side is fighting them.
Not only is there betrayal through faction, but there is also betrayal through family. We see how families turn against each other during the civil war.
There is a fight for survival as Jeanine Matthews, played by Kate Elizabeth Winslet, can control anybody she wants. She hunts the Divergent to get rid of them. Tris fights to get information for a rise to be released to change the city and a rise of a new government and information on outside the walls of the fence. Nothing will be the same.
“Insurgent” is a great movie and book and tells a story that can even bring life lessons and it is good and appropriate for all ages. It is a great movie to see as a family or on a date. Insurgent is a beautiful love story and action movie all in one. I would recommend it to all. I give it five Patriots.

The Snappening
By THS Media Reporter Melynda Robinson
Choosing how many seconds your picture will remain visible, you send a Snapchat to a couple of your friends. Thinking that after they view it, it will be gone forever. Due to the newly discovered third party apps like Snapsaved (the app the hacker hacked which is neither owned or authorized by Snapchat), allows users the option of saving pictures/videos from the app. Those photo’s might be anything but gone. In the latest report they could easily be floating around the web. With us, having no control over who sees it and where it might be posted.
According to Kunocreative.com fifty percent of the apps users are between the age of 13 and 17. Since many of the users are minors, the legal question comes in that if authorities were to find the hacker, could he or she possibly face potential prison time for releasing child pornography? The anonymous hacker from 4chan.org claimed he had a 14 gigabyte file containing over two hundred thousand explicit pictures. Announcing they could potentially be released and posted on the website Oct. 13. Although taken seriously, many online message boards claimed this was simply a hoax.
In correlation to the gossip, the file of 13.6 gigabytes containing 85,000 photos and 9,000 videos was leaked on Viralpop.com- a website that since the alleged leak, has been shut down. Before the site responded to the file, it had sadly already been downloaded over 100 times. Many of these downloaded copies can now be found on online forums like the original platform it was supposed to be leaked onto 4Chan or Reddit. Warning potential downloaders an anonymous 4Chan user posted their opinion on the file.
“I deleted as soon as I saw how much child pornography there was on it, don’t be a part of The Snappening, don’t seed it, don’t share it, just get rid of it,” the user pleaded.
In response to The Snappening, Snapchat claimed their servers were never breached and their app was never the source for the leak. Making a statement that the use of Third Party apps was prohibited in their Terms of Use. Therefore, they couldn’t be held responsible for any of the victims. To some, this will be a lesson very well learned as well as a warning that not everything that promises to vanish will just simply vanish.

By THS Media Reporter Wanda Wolfe
Actor and comedian Robin Williams, who played many roles from an alien, nanny, therapist and cartoon genie during a four decade long career, was found dead in his Northern California home in a suspected suicide Monday, Aug. 11 at the age of 63.
Williams had been battling severe depression for some time now. The coroner suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia.
Williams had struggled with addiction during his career and most recently went to rehab in June to “fine tune” his sobriety.
He had spoken openly about his cocaine addiction, which had plagued him during the ‘70s and ‘80s. In 2006 Williams had said he was an alcoholic and went to rehab to get his drinking under control.
Williams leaves behind four new movies that have yet to be released. These movies are “Night at the Muse: Secret of the Tomb”, “Boulevard”, “Mrs. Doubtfire 2”, and lastly “Merry Friggin Christmas”.

By THS Media Reporter Wanda Wolfe
Joan Rivers died at Mount Sinai Hospital on Thursday, Sept. 4. She was taken there last Thursday from an outpatient surgery clinic after going into cardiac arrest and losing consciousness. Rivers had been in the clinic for a minor procedure on her vocal cords. Her daughter said Tuesday that her mother was on life support and then Wednesday stated that she was out of intensive care. The state health department is investigating the circumstances that lead to her death, a state official said.
Joan Rivers was born in Brooklyn on June 8, 1933 to Meyer and Beatrice Gushman Molinsky, immigrants from Russia. Her father, was a doctor, and did comic impersonations of patients. Her mother insisted on piano and private schools for Joan and her sister Barbara, who grew up in Brooklyn and Larchment. Joan attended Adelphi Academy in Brooklyn, Connecticut College for Women and Barnard College. She graduated in 1954 with a degree in English.
Rivers had dreams of having an acting career, she worked in the publicity department at Lord and Taylor. She was a fashion coordinator for the Bond Stores merchandiser. Her parents refused to support her acting. She began to work in grimy cafes and small clubs. Rivers developed fresh routines based on her experiences and observations. She changed her last name to Rivers and got a few breaks. She was a role model and an inspiration for tough-talking comedians for Roseanne Barr and Sarah Silverman. Rivers was America’s first successful female stand-up comics in an aggressive tradition that had been almost exclusively the province of men, from Don Riekles to Larry Bruce. Her appearance on Jack Paar’s “Tonight Show” gave national exposure. In 1986 she hit big time with a $10 million contract as host of the new Fox network’s weeknight entry. “The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers,” competing directly with her old benefactor Johnny Carson.
