by THS Media Kevin Losch
The Kansas City Royals (89-63), have taken their first step in their season long goal when they won the “American League” central division on Sept. 24.
The Royals took on the ”Seattle Mariners” on Sept. 24 in an attempt to win the division and continue on the dream to the 2015 postseason.
The Royals were electric coming out against the Mariners on Thursday night. They came out with an early lead in the bottom of the first two innings with a throwing error scoring Ben Zobrist and a home run hit by Mike Moustakas. The Mariners quickly bounced back with a few doubles by Brad Miller and Mark Trumbo giving them the lead of 2-1. In the fifth, Eric Hosmer homered to center field tying the score to 3-3 in the game. Throughout the seventh through ninth innings the Royals had become a scoring machine as they scored every inning bringing the score to 10-3 Royals.
Kansas City became the “American League” central division champions. The Royals were the first team to win their division this year as they anxiously await to find out who their opponents will be in the 2015 playoffs.
”When I woke up this morning, I had a great feeling we would win it," Royals manager Ned Yost said according to MLB.com. "All tonight I thought we would win it. When I looked up and saw that Cleveland had scored six runs, I knew that this was going to be our night."
It was their night indeed, as the Royals pulled out with the win, so did the Cleveland Indians beating the Twins which propelled Kansas City into their second playoff bid after winning the “World Series” in 1985.
