answered back in the fourth with a homerun of his own bringing the score to 2-1 Royals. The seventh inning came and the Moustakas was in scoring position on second. Alex Rios hit a hard groundball that squeaked through which brought the “Moose” in to extend the Royals lead to 3-1. The game seemed to just about wrapped up when the hard hitting Bautista of the Blue Jays came to the plate in the top of the eighth. Ryan Madson was pitching for the Royals and he hung a fastball up and in that Bautista turned on and drove the ball deep into left field, while Ben Revere was on base, which brought the score to 3-3. Wade Davis was brought in to relieve Madson and eventually closed out the inning. After a 45 minute rain delay, in the bottom of the eighth, Royals fans were on the edge of their seats as they anxiously waited for a run to come their way. Lorenzo Cain singled to reach first base which gave life to the Royals fans. Eric Hosmer later came to the plate and hit a hard single down the right field line. Cain raced around the bases and came all the way from first to home and scored on a close play which put the Royals ahead 4-3. “If he breaks it down a little bit between second and third there’s no way I can send him,” said third base coach Mike Jirschele. The top of the ninth came, and after the 45 minute rain delay, Wade Davis, the Royals closer, headed back out to pitch for Kansas City. "Our plan was to hopefully get Madson through the eighth, because we knew the rain would probably come, and we didn't want to bring Wade in that inning unless we absolutely had to," manager Ned Yost said. |
Kansas City has made “The Dream” come true as they defeat the Toronto Blue Jays in game six of the American League Championship Series to advance to the 2015 World Series to face the New York Mets.
The Royals came into the series on a high note after defeating the Houston Astros in the ALDS and had a huge task ahead to face the hard hitting Blue Jays of Toronto. Kansas City jumped out to an early lead in the series when they took the first two games; 5-0 in the first and 6-3 in the second. The third game looked to be a disaster for the Royals as Toronto racked up runs early in the game and continued to throughout the game. While Kansas City rallied back they fell to Toronto with a score of 11-8. The fourth game of the series was a sight to behold when the Royals put together hit after hit, run after run, which led to a win of 14-2. Toronto was quickly faced with the risk of elimination as they headed to game five of the series. Toronto shut the Royals down in game five and won the game 7-1 bringing the series to 3-2 Royals. The series was heading back to Kansas City to play game six and seven, if need be. In game six of the series, the Royals and their fans were hungry to end the series and advance further into the playoffs. The Royals took the lead early with a Ben Zobrist home run to left off David Price for Toronto. In the following inning, Mike Moustakas hit a homerun to right field which was a controversial run. After review, it was upheld and resulted in a Kansas CIty lead of 2-0. Jose Bautista of Toronto |
The “Ace” quickly gave up a base hit to Russell Martin on a blooper to center field. Toronto pinch ran for Martin bringing in the speedy Dalton Pompey. Pompey stole second and then stole third on a walk to Kevin Pillar. Pillar would later steal second base. With two on and no outs the fans hearts stopped and waited anxiously for a miracle. That miracle came when Wade Davis struck out the next two batters he faced. Toronto was down to their last out when Josh Donaldson came up for the Blue Jays. Donaldson hit a hard ground ball to the “Moose” on a 2-1 count and the former “Gold Glove” recipient fielded the ball and made the throw to Hosmer at first to win the game for the Royals.
The Royals are back in the World series, hoping that they can turn around from last year and win their first World Series since 1985. The Royals will be facing the hard hitting and hard throwing Mets of New York. The Royals will have to be wary of infielder Daniel Murphy who is coming off home runs in six consecutive playoff games setting a record.
"It's going to continue to get tougher because the teams are getting better and better, but I like the way we're playing. I like what we've got going on,” Yost said.
The Royals definitely have their work cut out for them and it will be interesting to see how well they can perform as they continue to amaze, not only Kansas City, but the rest of the world.
